Shortlist for the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards 2017 Announced

May, 2017

After weeks of deliberation, the judges for the Kent Press & Broadcast Awards, organised by PR and marketing agency Maxim, met to decide the 2017 finalists.

This year, the awards, designed to celebrate and reward regional and local journalism, attracted 129 entries with Kent Young Journalist of the Year, Kent Feature Journalist of the Year and Kent Print Journalist of the Year proving to be the most popular categories.

Maxim’s Rachel Knight said: “As ever, the entries came flooding in right up to the 5pm deadline but we wouldn’t expect anything else from journalists! The media landscape has changed quite considerably in the last year so we’re very grateful to still have a high level of interest.

“It was great to have submissions from journalists and publications that haven’t entered in the past. Best Use of Social Media and Kent Digital Journalist of the Year proved more popular than in previous years, which is perhaps a sign of how news gathering and delivery is evolving.”

Judges Susie Boniface, a national journalist known as Fleet Street Fox; PA photographer Gareth Fuller; sports journalist and lecturer Paul Majendie; digital consultant Patrick Fuller; journalist and lecturer Dr Sarah Lonsdale; and award-winning TV producer Martyn Gregory reviewed the entries before agreeing on the shortlist.

The winners will be announced at an award ceremony taking place at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury. Hosted by award-winning television and radio broadcaster, writer and journalist Gavin Esler, the ceremony takes place on Friday 14 July.
