Public exhibition for KSP expansion

On this day: 25 June 2008

While most people recognise the need to create jobs and grow the economy, the message can often be received badly by local residents, and the proposed expansion of Kent Science Park back in 2008 was one of those cases.

With businesses already eager to expand on site, the owners were looking to invest £15-20m in a four-hectare expansion to create 400 jobs. New buildings were proposed, including a new arrivals centre.

They called on Maxim to help put their case and on this day in 2008 a public exhibition, which we organised and promoted in the media, was held at a nearby village hall. Well-attended by residents, it was clear that there was opposition due to the anticipated impact on the local road network. Unfortunately, the project didn’t get the go-ahead from the local council.

Today, the expansion of the science park, and with it the prospect of thousands of new homes and a new road linking the Northern Relief Road to the M2, is on the agenda as part of the Highsted Park proposals – and a decision is pending from the Secretary of State.
