New visitor centre for National Trust

On this day: 20 September 2019

Not everything arrives as quickly as you like, some things you have wait for – and that was certainly the case for the National Trust and its aspirations to improve visitor facilities at the 14th century Ightham Mote.

Maxim was appointed to support the plans to restore the historic Walled Garden and North Drive, create a new visitor reception and shop, and improve parking and traffic flows on the site.

On this day in 2019, the public exhibition we organised began to promote the plans to residents and the press.

The plans were originally rejected, and the National Trust returned to the planning committee with revised plans which were approved, and the new visitor centre was constructed by WW Martin.
