Bluebird visits Bewl Water

On this day: 7 September 2017

The need for speed is what drives many of us and back in 2017, Maxim helped to promote the visit of Sir Malcolm Campbell’s world water speed record-breaking hydroplane Bluebird K3 to Bewl Water for a test run.

Commissioned in 1937 to rival the Americans’ efforts in the fight for the world water speed record, Bluebird K3 set three records with Sir Malcolm Campbell at the helm, two in two days on Lake Maggiore in September 1937, before raising the bar to 130.91mph at Lake Hallwyl in Switzerland in August 1938.

We worked with the team at Foulkes Halbard Collection, which is housed at Filching Manor Motor Museum near Eastbourne, after Bluebird K3 had undergone an extensive restoration ahead of her Bewl Water test run.

The result was a strong media event and a great day out helping to try and repeat history.
