E.ON UK - owners and operators of power stations on the Hoo Peninsula

Power to the people

Brief

  • As well as playing a vital role meeting the UK’s electricity needs, E.ON’s power stations have been an important part of the community on the Hoo Peninsula.
  • Maxim’s role has been to help maintain and build on E.ON’s good relations with the local community, including times when plans for a new power station at Kingsnorth were the subject of controversy.

Results and highlights

  • A regular series of exhibitions – and production of all required exhibition material – across the Hoo Peninsula to consult with local residents on planned developments at Kingsnorth.
  • A further series of exhibitions relating to proposals for a pipeline to carry ‘captured’ carbon dioxide for storage in depleted North Sea gas and oil fields.
  • Production and distribution of a community newsletter for local residents and businesses to keep them abreast of E.ON’s work on the Hoo Peninsula, progress on the new gas-fired CHP power station at Grain and the company’s plans for the future.
  • A sponsorship programme that has seen involvement with the Medway Business Awards, the Pride in Medway Awards and the Environment Awards for Kent Business as well as support for a local community newsletter.
  • A freephone service to help ensure good communications with local residents.

  • Regular presentations to and visits from parish councils and other interested groups.
