Leading Kent public relations agency, Maxim, has been shortlisted for a prestigious award from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations (CIPR).
The agency fought off strong competition to be shortlisted in the popular Best Use of Media Relations category in the CIPR Home Counties South Pride Awards for its work with Visit Kent at Kent County Council to promote the Kent Big Day Out 2008. The winner will be announced on October 31.
Maxim worked with newspapers, radio and television stations across Kent to encourage visitor destinations to take part in the Big Day Out and county residents to take advantage of more than 16,000 free tickets to explore local attractions.
One hundred and thirty attractions, including castles, gardens, leisure centres, steam railways and river trips, made free tickets available for the Kent Big Day Out on March 29. More than 11,000 tickets were downloaded from the Visit Kent website within eight hours of going live.
Philip Jones, who co-founded the Tunbridge Wells-based agency 13 years ago, said: “The Kent Big Day Out is a tremendous event to promote our tourism industry which contributes more than £2.5 billion to the county economy and supports seven per cent of all jobs.
“The success of this campaign reflects the commitment and enthusiasm of our local journalists and broadcasters to their county and their continuing support for the tourism industry.
“The Kent Big Day Out lets people discover and rediscover for themselves new and traditional visitor attractions, destinations and activities so that they are able to tell all their guests, friends and families about the best places to go in our county.”
This year’s Kent Big Day Out was the second of five being staged in the run-up to the 2012 Olympic Games and part of the many preparations being made by the county in readiness for an influx of visitors for the sporting events.
Maxim works with a wide range of businesses and organisations across the South East including Business Link, Visit Kent, University of Greenwich, Kent Science Park, Kent International Airport, Westwood Cross, Groombridge Place, CBI, Clydesdale Bank and the Institute of Directors. |
